January News

Great news! We are now approved for sales tax exemption in Pennsylvania! That’s a major piece of the process toward allowing San José Café to operate! Now we can focus on establishing the import process… Does anyone know a customs broker who would be willing to help this project (donating their time or assisting for a reduced rate?)?

Shop Updates: A highlight from this month was an Interchurch Council Meeting I was invited to attend to present about the project – it’s an occasional meeting of several pastors from different Christian churches here in Newville.  It was a little intimating at first being the youngest person in the room, but then the Holy Spirit came in power! There was a genuine excitement and support from everyone as we all seemed to realize the beauty of coming together as one Body, looking past our differences in beliefs to focus on our one common mission to bring Christ to others and support the poor. I truly felt welcomed by the community and I am excited to see what God has in store for all of us!  Also, as a divine confirmation, I found out that this is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – God’s providence is awesome!!

Volunteers: A few young men have shown serious interest in serving with us as coffee shop missionaries this summer! Please keep them in your prayers and please let me know if you know anyone else who may be interested – dates are flexible: he can come for a week, a month or three months! I am also willing to travel to meet him in person/help him fund raise.

Coffee Updates: Coffee season is finishing up! Honduras is ready with plenty of coffee we just need to establish the import system to be able to bring the coffee over.  We still have not reached our $10,000 goal…please donate (even just $5 a month!) so we can hire a customs broker and pay import fees!

Looking ahead: The ladies were very generous at the Women’s Conference in Harrisburg, now for the men! We will be having a table at a Men’s Conference in Austin, TX on February 8th. Thank you to the generous donor who payed for the table to make this possible. Please keep that event in your prayers and as always, watch for updates our social media pages!

God bless you and thank you for supporting this project!

Almighty ever-living God, who gather what is scattered, look kindly on the flock of your Son, that those whom one Baptism has consecrated may be joined together by integrity of faith and united in the bond of charity. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
